The Big Joke offers emerging comedians the opportunity to strut their stuff and win cash, prizes and the admiration of an adoring crowd. In fact many of our Idiots have gone on to bigger and better things.

The raw talent, the heady mix of the Festival Bar atmosphere and world class comedians as MC’s all make an irresistible formula for F-U-N.

Village Idiot Contestant 2008Contestants battle it out over 4 heats.

  • Friday night (19th March, 6pm) Festival Bar
  • Saturday Morning (20th March, 11am) Festival Bar
  • Saturday Evening (20th March, 5pm) Festival Bar
  • Sunday Afternoon (21st March, 12pm) Festival Bar

The top two winners from each heat then take to the main stage in the A+I Hall to fight it out for the cash and prizes in the Grand Final.

Some acts are diamonds in the rough, some are diamonds and some are just rough. Either way it’s a whole lotta fun. All heats are FREE entry to the public. The Grand Final will be hosted by the” Australian Fast Bowler” himself Mr Tom Gleeson on Sunday 21st at 4pm.

Each year we strive to reward those brave souls who take the stage seeking stand up glory. This year we have quite the bounty;

  • A $500 cash prize donated by the Bangalow Chamber of Commerce for the Grand Champion
  • $300 cash ($200 to Runner Up, $100 to Third Place) fronted by Festival Director Jay Allison
  • Plus 2 Gaia Retreat and Spa body treatments followed by a sumptuous lunch for 1st and 2nd place
